9/11 By The Numbers.....

9/11…….The numbers are still jaw dropping.

There were 2,977 people killed on 9/11.
In NYC there were 411 emergency workers killed.
343 fire fighters.

The firefighters who were killed came from 75 different firehouses across NYC.
Over the course of three hours 121 engine companies were deployed including 62 ladder companies and 27 fire officers.
All off-duty firefighters were recalled on that morning.
In addition to the regular fire apparatus the FDNY also deployed its only Haz-Mat unit, its mobile command center, its field communications unit, its five rescue units, both of its high-rise units, six of its squad units, and one of its two tactical support units.
Of the fire fighters killed there were 17 chiefs. 23 Captains. 44 Lieutenants.
141 Firefighters died in the North Tower.
191 Died in the South Tower.
Because the North Tower was hit first all the firefighters (from nearby firehouses) rushed to that building. The firefighters who came from further away (and showed up later) ended up going into the South Tower.
Because the plane that hit the South Tower crashed lower on the building (and at a higher rate of speed) the South Tower collapsed first. This is why most of the firefighters killed were stationed at firehouses further away from ground zero.
