So, let me get this straight.

When some lunatic walks into a room and blows away 10 or 15 or 30 innocent people, the standard reaction from conservatives is: "You can't punish the millions of law abiding, responsible gun owners for the crimes of a few. Just because one bad guy goes off the deep end doesn't mean we should punish all these other gun owners by passing new gun restrictions. "Stuff happens," calm down, most people just want to protect their kids and their families. We need tougher laws to deal with the criminal element, but don't punish the many law abiding gun owners for the crimes of a few bad apples...."

And yet..... today, after we learn that a few terrorists may have crossed the border into Europe with hundreds of thousands of otherwise peaceful, law abiding, exhausted refugees, the response, from some of these very same people, is: "Shut the gates on ALL of them! None of them can be trusted! Any one of them could be a terrorist and we simply cannot take the risk of innocent Americans getting hurt." Even though, by all accounts, the vast majority of refugees are simply people trying to "protect their families," we are told the assumption is they are terrorists and we must therefore take the most extreme measures possible to protect innocent American lives. No effort will be made to determine who is good and who is bad. Just shut the door.

So, when it comes to guns, it's "some shit's gonna happen and we can't do anything about it because most people are law abiding." But when it comes to refugees, it's "some shit's gonna happen, and we're gonna hold a whole bunch of people who've done nothing wrong responsible for said shit."
